Our girls like to visit with an elderly lady up the road, Mrs. Hesse. Yesterday she sent this gorgeous bouquet of flowers home with the girls for me cut fresh from her garden. They smell heavenly!

Homemakers have such great opportunity to create their own work. They can keep busy with many projects and chores. I would rather make the extra effort to hang clothes on the line, rather than putting them in the dryer. I love the work and it keeps me productive.

I want my children to see me busy and happy. I want them to love the idea of working and find it satisfying.

It would be so easy for me to settle into a chair and spend all my time reading. Yes, the house would suffer, and I would get plenty of rest, but this is not a good example to my children.

I have noticed that if I am busy creating a sewing project, or decorating, or planning an adventure, the children seem to find plenty of their own projects. We become a productive family. No one is bored. Everyone is inventive.

We go to each other with our latest ideas with great eagerness and excitement. We are also available to each other as we work. There is time to chat while I sew. There is time to visit while the children draw or make a go-cart. We may even come up with ideas to earn some money from home. This creates an entrepreneurial spirit. It creates excitement!

I want my children to remember me busy and happy. I want them to know that "Mother can do just about anything I need her to!" I love that my grown children still call me for advice or to help them with an idea. They like to see that I have my own talents and abilities. Daily, I must cultivate those gifts.

I was honored to be given access to Robert Pierre's new EP. He is an 18 year old Christian high school - honor - student who is very talented. He is a singer / songwriter and has already been performing at such events as - Christian tours, youth groups, summer festivals, teen camps, and Christian fundraisers. He has dedicated his life entirely to the work of the Lord.

His Christian music is contemporary and will appeal to many young people. Personally, I prefer old southern gospel, but Robert's music is catchy and inspiring. I am enjoying it!

Robert's new CD will be released this summer. I will be offering it here in a giveaway. In the meantime, four of his songs are available for a FREE preview:

Ages - Designed for grades K - 5 but is also good for older students

Math students have a better chance of succeeding in their studies if they have basic math facts memorized. They need to learn addition/ subtraction/ multiplication and division. The old school method is to drill with flash cards. Current technology is making it much easier to learn.

Mad Dog Math is a great resource for children. The student logs-in by typing his name into the log-in screen. This helps track his progress and makes it possible for more than one student to use the system.

There are 3 skill levels and 4 options of timed work - 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, or no limit. The student is supposed to start with either "no limit" or "2 minutes" and work on his speed. When he "moves up," he is rewarded with virtual club stickers!

There is also a "challenge" option. This includes mixed problems, rather than all subtraction or all addition.

How it worked for us

John (13) worked on this a few times a week. He enjoyed passing all the required problems. There is an icon labeled "progress" where he could see which ones he had completed, and which ones he still had to do. These included tasks like - "addition for seven to nine, ten, eleven, etc."

The software puts a check mark next to each session as he finishes them. He really enjoyed seeing how much he was able to complete. He was even motivated to keep working so he could earn his club stickers!

The entire process is easy:

1. Click "fetch' for a new task.

2. Click "time me" to begin.

3. Click "stop" if you need to quit.

You'll see a cute dog in the lower corner of the screen. He barks at the end of each session. It is adorable and fun!

This is my bathroom. It is long but not very wide. It is wall-papered, but we would like to eventually take that down and paint.

The sink/vanity holds much of my Mary Kay beauty products. The wicker container is divided into two sections: Alfred gets one half and I the other (along with the rest of the space!:)

Another shot of the sink/vanity...I love the mirrors but not the gold tone. They will be repainted white when we start redoing the bath.

And finally, my shower curtain with it's delicate embroidered pink flowers and cream tassels.

I love getting up early in the morning and heading outside. The air is slightly cool. I can wear a shawl or sweater as I walk the property. The world is asleep. The sun has barely risen and I am enjoying the silence of a new day.

There is hope when I walk outdoors. I can pray and think and enjoy the beauty of my surroundings.

Perhaps I will pick some flowers and bring them inside. Perhaps I will have tea on the front porch and read. Such pleasant times in the morning.

It is a delight to be at home.

This is looking into my office from the dining room....

My desk where the blogging magic happens and where I visit with all of my blog friends and kindred spirits.

The sunflower picture was made by my 10 year old daughter, Kenzie, using acrylic paints on a canvas. Didn't it turn out wonderful? The picture in the pink frame on the left is my husband, Alfred. This was how he looked when we met. Absolutely dreamy!! I love Willow Tree figurines....can you tell?

At Christmas last year, I added the children figurines to my Willow Tree collection. They signify our family.

The one holding the cat represents Kayla (age 14) who loves animals. If you have a question about animals, she's your go-to girl! The other represents my spunky, sassy Kenzie girl, who is not afraid to rumble with the boys if need be. :)

The boy figurines represent my step-son Joel, who will be 19 in July and is currently away at military training (I hate the word step-son! I consider him my son and treat him as if he were my own!) and Kendall who is 18. He also wants to join the military.

This is my first Willow Tree figurine. It represents me and my husband, Alfred, and our love which has sustained us thus far. Next month we will celebrate 19 years of marriage!
