Homemaking

Well, Papa is delivering pizzas this afternoon. I have been writing and making lists for Spring.

I hope to get alot of sugar on sale and start stock piling that. I need a lot of sugar throughout the summer and into the fall for making pickles and jellys, jams, and apple and pumpkin butters. As soon as it is spring here, I will make rhubarb jam. It’s the first jam I make in the spring. In the fall, my bread and butter pickles take a lot of sugar, too. I also need to be buying a big jug of vinegar, both white and the apple cider vinegar.

Also this afternoon, along with writing lists of things to buy, I have been making things from the left overs of yesterday. I made chicken soup from the left over baked chicken, mashed potatoes and corn. I added a can of mixed vegetables and some noodles. Mary and I had that for lunch. Papa will have it for his supper.

Then I had about half a birthday cake left and this is what I did with it. It was from a chocolate cake mix and on top was a chocolate frosting with chocolate chips. I just took the leftover cake and all the frosting and chocolate chips and put it in a bowl with 3 eggs, about a half cup of sugar, and some milk to make it all gooshy. Then I put it in a greased cake pan and baked it. It was sure better the second time. My cousin Diane and her husband were just here. I served her husband some and he loved it. It was delicious, a lot better than the first time around. You make it like you would bread pudding, only you use leftover cake. This is called cake pudding and is very good. I don’t add as much liquid as I could to make it a pudding. I just have mine kinda like a fudge cake.

Another thing I am writing about in my notes is how much mint and other herbs I want to dry this fall for the winter.

I keep prayin’ about the war, asking the Lord if I should stock up on anything. Oh mercy, I think we should have gardens this year, for sure. I grow mostly tomatoes and peppers of every kind. I grow a lot of herbs. I am sticking close to the Lord as to what to grow and what to put up for the winter. It’s a good time to trust in the Lord and wait upon Him. I mean, if it isn’t now that we need a garden, then when?

And we need flowers along with the vegetables, fruits, and herbs. We need flowers to cheer our spirits up, and to hang upside down and dry for the winter.

I don’t grow beans, ya know? I mean you can buy beans so cheap. And dried beans keep forever. I have beans in jars, it seems, in every cabinet. Potatoes are usually cheap around here, too. I would think it may be a good idea to get some potatoes on sale and can them.

I think its a real time to get serious with the Lord about keeping a full pantry. I think there is such a famine of the word of God, especially for the keeper at home. But second to the teachings on wisdom, we do need to be listening to the Lord about stocking up and keeping full pantries.

Well, I had better get back to work. I have more lists to make and dishes to wash.
